Seasons in the Sun
Without recognizing the sombre content of a song thirty years ago, I liked the tune called Seasons in the Sun. The song is a farewell song by somebody dying. The writer does not disclose what the departing person is dying from, or is considering suicide.
Let me make it perfectly clear - a Christian giving his ALL to his Master does not mean committing suicide. Just like God does not want anyone to hate, hurt or even murder anybody, who is not following their religious beliefs.
To a Christian dying means to give up their independence, to stop relying on their own strength. This is what Jesus said to an influential, rich young man, who was seriously considering following Jesus: "Sell what you have, give to the poor and take up your cross and follow me." (Mark 10, 21). Unwilling to do this, he went away sad.
Dying a Christian's death, taking up one's cross, is saying: "God, no matter how rich I am, I need you. Without you I am nothing, I can do nothing. Take away anything that stops me from following you totally."
Once a person has understood this, they are ready for baptism. The old selfish character dies symbolically, as the persons is being submerged. The rising out of the water symbolizes that he or she is raised up with Christ to new life. Such a person is committed to Christ, loving nothing more than to do HIS will every moment of every day in their life. That person's will becomes God's will. Life will be a pleasure to live.
I found the lyrics of Seasons in the Sun, written over 30 years ago, fitting into my world of codes in many places. From the title and the writer's name, to words like trust - friend - hills - starfish. Even the numbers 9, 10 comes up in the second line and birds happily singing in the sky.
I changed the lyrics to create a positive message - To die to self and to live for Christ is a positive step anybody must take, who has not yet done so.

Seasons In The Sun (Play)
Goodbye my friend, it's hard to die,
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
Pretty girls are everywhere.
Think of me and I'll be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
And the hills that we climbed
they were seasons right on time.
Goodbye, Papa, please pray for me,
I was the black sheep of the family.
But you helped teach them right from wrong.
With your words and with your song,
wonder how they get along.
Goodbye, Papa, it's hard to die
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
Little children everywhere.
When you see them I'll be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the words and your song,
like the seasons can't be wrong.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the words and the song,
like the seasons can't be wrong.
Goodbye, Michelle, my little one.
You gave me love and helped me find the sun.
And every time that I was down;
you would always come around
and get my feet back on the ground.
Goodbye, Michelle, it's hard to die
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
Little flowers ev'rywhere.
I wish that we could both be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
Yes the stars we could reach
were like starfish on the beach.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
Yes the stars we could reach
were like starfish on the beach.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the words and the song,
like the seasons can't be wrong
All our lives
we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
